Lost And Found Two

I've been going through my milk crates full of tapes, looking for some very specific recordings of my first band. So far, I've had no luck.

I did find a lot of music that really was life-changing when I was an alterna-teen (actually some of it predated that phase). One that I found was really great for me circa late 1989: Death's Scream Bloody Gore. I always thought that the lyrics on "Zombie Ritual" were really silly, but Chuck Schuldiner was a great player (RIP), and to a 14-year-old kid, it was cool:

And tonight, I'm going to a folk show....unbelievable.

Death Magnetic, Eh?

Apparently, Metallica released a new record on Friday. Tuesdays are new record day, assholes (everyone knows that).

I had heard this one while riding along with the new guy (sexy mexi--apparently METAL, also). I'm glad to hear Trujillo--he's the best player they've had (I'll burn in hell for that). Like this (love that Cadillac):
When I first heard it, I was all like (truly valley girl) "THIS IS METALLICA?!?" I just heard great rock playing, and it hadn't gotten into that regurgitated Kirk Hammett solo, which is utterly queer, like this video.

I heart actors with eyeliner. This was totally shot in Utah, right? My favorite part of the video is Johnny Depp with jumper cables and a Ford Festiva. Fucking priceless:

Twenty Years Ago

Seems like not that long ago that South of Heaven was released, doesn't it?

South of Heaven, the title track, has some spooky harmonics, and the brilliant perfect fourth harmonies that Slayer was so fond of on Reign in Blood. And...it says 'cunting daughters,' which was HUGE nastiness for me in eighth grade. The coda is beautiful feedback, and probably made Roland Corp. a lot of money on that distortion feedbacker pedal.

Silent Scream is an anti-abortion song, I think. Funny to me that such a hardcore band would be so conservative. That 'killing fucking arabs' video confused me even more.

Live Undead was a live record released in 1985. I really don't care for the stuff before Hell Awaits; live is even worse. This track has the dual lead shit, and is very much classic Slayer.

Behind The Crooked Cross, is another slower 'South of Heaven' classic. More great drumming. More lame bass playing. Decent satanic lyrics. More double leads. Cool stereo effects.

Mandatory Suicide closes out the first side. I totally plagiarized those lyrics in 9th grade poetry (I got an A+. I think that E-Dogg totally did the same). The bass playing is all bonk-ba-bonk; better than most of the record. More double leads. Lots of beating the guitar with lots and lots and lots of reverb close out the track.

Ghosts of War starts a lot like something off of Reign in Blood. I'm not so into speed-metal for speed-metal's sake. After the middle (slower) section it almost gets nice. Love the drumming. The triplets are fuckin' awesome and way way fast, like 32nd-note triplets.

Cleanse The Soul is way more like something that should've been on Reign in Blood. Don't like it. Prepare for the impaling, indeed.

Dissident Aggressor...doesn't get more metal, really. Priest rocks.

Spill the Blood is the best track. The bass playing is weak at best but the drumming is so solid--Lombardo at his best. That 12-string-ish intro is mighty. Lyrically, brilliant for a satanic rock song. This one really felt a lot more like 'Seasons in the Abyss' material.

Wanna Get Wild?

So goes one of the scripts to my 'obscene phone calls.' It never works, but it's fun. I found this while looking for a Gibson Thunderbird:

That zebrawood rocks, but I couldn't actually pull it off. I require a more ugly one, that matches the hand-wired bass cab and what-not. Something like this beat-up cherry transparent '65 T-bird, maybe (I'd kill for one without a neck repair):

Like that in a transparent blue and I'd do unspeakable things, really. Trans-blue and reverse body (a la Watt, unfortunately--I forgot about this until I typed it--his is all metallica blue and a single pickup--I'd kill children and cute baby animals for that bass--single pickups are where it's at):

Metal Rules

John "Fuckin'" Nichols would back me up on that title...

I had this on cassette and the tape got a twist. The funny thing about fuckin' Cacophony is that, besides the reverb on the drums being backwards, you can't even tell that it's flipped, especially if you're really high after the ice-bong-o-rama.

The Ninja--hells yeah, bitches:

Those posed shots really show off their beautiful hair. Really beautiful hair, man. But, where are those whacky Carvin guitars?!?

Apparently, fuckin' Cacophony made it into fuckin' Guitar Hero II with this sweep-picking masterpiece. I'm sort of striving for for of those pretty counterpoint things, lately. This one will make my non-metal readers' heads explode:

Honestly, I'm Conflicted About This Repost

I totally support the effort to locate Neil's bass, even if he replaced my dumb ass with the RC. Shit, we do have matching tattoos. It's a supercool instrument, too. Here is the repost from PMFS (emphasis added):
Last night at the Mastodon, Against Me, Cursive show Neil's bass was ripped off outside of the club.......

THIS IS WHERE WE NEED YOUR HELP!!!!!! this bass was the world to neil and was his baby so we need to pull together and find it for him!!!! so please help!!

the bass was stolen outside of the Warfield @ 982 Market Street in San Francisco between 4:15pm and 4:45pm on Wednesday, May 2nd 2007
there was security "watching" our gear but somebody pulled a fast one.
the bass was seen right up until 4:15 by the guys in Cursive and has not been since.

it was a 1979 Washburn "Hawk" bass
long scale
the knobs were all different colors: one black, two gold, and one metal
it was wood grain with a pearl trim
and there was a crack between the knobs that also made it his bass.

the bass was in a hard, black sbk case with several red and white spray paint stencils all over it.
things like:
"Git Some", "Fragile", "Planes" w/ thunder in the night forever and a planes skull, "Please Be Gentle", and there was several other random one of a kind art prints on the case as well.

the best photo of the bass we have is below>>>

side note> the knob you see on the right has been replaced with a black knob and the gold one has been moved down to where the knob is missing in the photo.

if you have any information please email no_rest@hotmail.com or call 773-793-5244
if you need a police officer right away please contact the San Francisco Police Department in regards to case number 070449444
officer d. sands badge #170 was there and filed the report.

PLEASE REPOST>>> WE REALLY NEED YOUR HELP!!! AND THERE WILL BE A REWARD IF IT IS FOUND!!!!!!!!
